As we can see on this draw, internet is today is gluting by the leader. Google bought YouTube, MSN and Yahoo want to join forces to compete against Google. The "magic" of the technological idea is immediately bought by the great actors of the web.
2007 will be a great year for the web technology, but not only on computer. The development of the wifi will, of course, permit to be be connected with your notebook in a lot a public space... but, the development of the technology PDA - cell phone can be a revolution.

In my opinion, the tool of this revolution will be the Apple iPhone. This phone is a real iPod + a PDA + a cell phone + a camera 8MP + a web receiver for... less of $500 !
Steve Jobs is very optimist with his project but if he wins his bet, the e-culture technology will start up thanks to him... we will see...

YouTube is everywhere, the site is visited all the time, a lot of blogger make links from YouTube... But on YouTube, you can create a personal space too !
First, you can post on a personnal page, all the videos you made, and comment it. You can show how was your holidays or your last english class.
Then, as the MySpace community, you can meet friends, and friends of friends... people who like your space can promote it to their friends and, as on MySpace, you can grow your band !

Those tools create a phenomenon : artists uses now the YouTube Space as a promotional tool. They upload their videoclip, their painting, their interview and have a free advertising... moreover very trendy ! even if they are dead... (YouTube Group of Frank Sinatra)

Keep your work on the head !

A great advantage of the electronic culture is that, thanks to the computer, the documents, the texts, the pictures you made are now easily duplicatable. For instance, before, when you wrote a text or took a photo, you had your work in only one copy. If you want to duplicate it, you had to photocopy your text, or to develop again your pictures. It was very dificult, very expensive… today, thanks to the technology, you can keep your work very easyly. You can copy your text on your hardisk, on a usb key, on your ftp, on your e-mail, on your wiki… In my opinion, when you work on a big work, you have to save it on at least two process when you work on it. That permit to keep your work if your computer is breaking down.

FaceBook stalking

The facebook stalking refers to the fact of getting information on a personal facebook profile without the agreement of the user. A facebook is n fact the book which show a picture of all the students of a promotion, especially in the Amercian university. With the development of internet, the facebook set in on the web. But, on the web, there is no only the picture and the name of the student, there is a personnal page that he can write everything he wants. There is a social network as MySpace.

The problem is that some teachers uses this network to spy their students. For instance,
several students at Saint Joseph's College, Indianawere stripped of leadership positions within the student body for facebook pictures that clearly showed them drinking at parties on Saint Joe's campus. The pictures, which was taken inside a dormitory of the college, were considered as a proof that the students were in violation of the college's dry campus policy.

Privacy polution

The privacy pollution refers to all the personal flutter that someone can make on your computer, or on your cyber life. For instance, we can talk about the spamming, which is the fact to send you a e-mail on your box, whereas you don't want to receive it. Some companies fiund this system to publicize their product, improperly !

The hacking is a technic too. The hacker take command of your computer and delete your files and difuse the virus all over the world. To prevent it, you have to buy an anti virus (as Norton or other). Unfortunately, there are rumoors which say that there is the anti virus team who create some virus... I hurt and I sell you the medicine...
The pop-up can be consider as a privacy pollution cause when you read a website, and an advertising spring up... it's very irritating !

CMS

A web content management system is a software used to help the internet users in the process of when they want to update a website. In fact, instead of remake your website when you want to modify a think, you can use your CMS interface and update it in few minutes. With a CMS, your website is very simple.

You can :

Update very quickly (news…)

Permit the updating by some users (with a systme of login / password)

Upload files easyly

Structure your page quickly

For example, when you create a wiki, you use the CMS of your wiki provider. That is the reason why it is very simple. That is the same technic on your blog creation interface.

Actually, I thing that this class' concept is allready very original. We learn a lot of stuff surfing on the web, reading articles and talking with msn. I thing that we could go farther with the new technology and open a wiki. Of course, everybody have to be very disciplined because on a wiki, everybody can write anything but can also delete everything. However, if this process work, it can be a real proof of the cohesion of the class.

S-HTTP for S-internet users

SHTTP or Secure HTTP is an extension to the HTTP that allows the secure exchange of files on the web. When you are on a site whitch you doesn’t want that a hacker see what you are doing, if this page uses the SHTTP protocol, nobody can hack it.

If you want to go on a Secure Page, you have to log on the page with a "login" and a password. However, the protocol is more secure than a userid. In fact, it is not a barrier to be crossedbut a protocol which watches your connection so that it is not pirated. The Secure HTTP is more likely to be used in situations like a bank where requires authentication from the user that is more secure than a classical userid and password.

When you are on a SHTTP page, Firefox show you a logo of padlock near the URL, and show the url in yellow.

Cybercrime, Cyberlove, Cyberlife

The term "cybercrime" regroup all the crime made by hackers on the internet. Ther is a lot of forms. First, there are all the unauthorized access to personnal session. All the form of Hacking, the cyberterrorism and the online harassment. There are also the e-bank fraud and the identity theft (which is developped in another article of the blog). We can add on the list the virus, the trojan... and all the destruction and the theft of virtual property.

Do we have to add the case of someone who makes a crime helping by internet, for instance, tracking down the place with Google Earth, or finding his victim on the net ? All the governments take care of this subject, especially the U.S. governement, and opened a website to inform the internet users : Cybercrime.gov

Everybody can be victim of any form of cybercrime. Someone stole the number of my brother's check card. It is cybercrime, naturally less important than some cases.

To protect yourself, pay on the net with secure process or use Paypal and keep enable your antivirus and your firewall when you are surfing on the web.

Really Simple Simple ???

RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a great development because with this technology, you can see the news of all the website you like, in only one page or one program. Actually, it’s a feed using a XML technology.For instance, if you want to have the last news of Le Monde on your PC, it's very simple. You go on this page and you can find the XML url of the RSS feeds offer by Le Monde. You put it in your program (or e-programs like NetVibes) or on your browser's favorites and now, you have in real time the news of the subjects that interest you.

Unfortunately, only few browsers can read the language (Safari, Firefox) but the most used (InternetExplorer) can’t read it. However, the next version of IE will read the RSS, it will develop the technology more.

You Tube or I Tube ?

YouTube is the first video sharing web site completely free. YouTube was founded in February 2005 by three employees of PayPal : Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. Everyday, millions of internet users upload new videos on YouTube and everybody can read it. In October 2006, one and half year after the creation, Google acquired the YouTube company for $1.65 billion.

The incredible success of YouTube on the web comes from the fact that they revolutionized the method of reading videos on the web. Before YouTube, when you wanted to read a video on the web, you had to download the video on a big server or with a peer-to-peer software. It was very very long because you had to download completely the file. YouTube decided to use the Flash technology and to diffuse the video in “streaming”. So, the file size is very low and you can play the video during the download of it. That is the reason why YouTube is today a real phenomenon on the web.

The biggest problem of YouTube is of course the copyright. In fact, everybody can upload a video on YouTube in few minutes. So, if somebody upload a movie or any multimedia file else with a copyright, YouTube have to delete it automatically. However, there is so many videos to see... YouTube is often sued !

The identity theft is a phenomenon very dangerous because it is when somebody steal your identity and do something (sometimes wrong) by persuading that it is you.

Of course, the most famous identity theft is the number of credit card on the web. When you pay with your card on Web, the thief gets back your coordinates banking then he can buy something for him, with your money.

But this method is not the only form of identity theft. People endowed in data processing can, for instance, send an e-mail by showing your e-mail in the compartment "sender". With this method, you can make great joke but bad stuff too.

However, there is something easier to do : on the chats, and forums, you can take the same (or very close) pseudo your. Someone can even have a blog or a website by persuading the Internet users that you are the author. That is what happened to Nelly Arcan, a book’s author. Someone created a MySpace account with her name. So, he wrote a blog where he lied on a lot of time on a lot of subject. The worst consequence was that a journalist interviewed the liar by mail, by believing that he wrote to the true Nelly Arcan.

Internet can help you to learn english

Internet is a revolution in a lot of domains, business, entertainment but in learning too. Of course, you can find on the web a lot of method to have a “teacher at home” like the “Learn English online” of the British Council. Even if internet is new for the method, it is just an adaptation of the concept of classic learning.

However, if you want to learn English on internet, there is other stuff more funny and playful that you can try :

First, if you like movies or series, you can download on the web (more or less legalement) multimedia files on peer-to-peer network. Then, when you have the last episode of Prison Break in English for instance, you download the subtitles in French and you combine the movie and the subtitles with a software like VLC Media Player. This method can help you to understand the language. Then, when you finish it, you can do the same thing with the English subtitles. Finally, you look the episode without any subtitles.

Then, to improve your English, you can read online newspaper on the web, like the on-line edition of the Times or of the Guardian. On Internet, you can also listen on-line radio like the BBC radios. Read and listen the news in English all year long can improve your level of English.

Finally, the conversation training is also something that Internet can propose. In fact, with social network, you can make English speaker friends and talk to him on MSN. You can even have audio conversation with Skype.

A day, Joel Osteen, the pastor of Lakehood Church in Houston, Texas said "Choosing to be positive and having a grateful attitude is going to determine how you're going to live your life." Thank you Joel.

However, this "grateful attitude" exist on internet too. So, you have to have the six next qualities :

First, you have to be generous. The generosity is a great quality of the internet user. The Peer to peer phenomenon is a proof of that beacause the users are in the habit of the sharing. When they have a movie, a music, they are not selfish, they share it. Genrosity beacause it is nice, and it is free for the on who download.
Pirate ? Way to hell ? no ! Joel said "I believe God's favor is something intangible where you've got God's blessings on your lives."

Then, and as Jim Rohn said, "Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment." In fact, discipline is important on the web. For instance, on the social networks, on the forums, on the chat, everybody have to be as disciplined as possible. If someone wants to sabotage the network, he can (Fortunately for a little while).

The patience have to be with you too. Internet is fabulous, internet is free, on internet you can find all the multimedia file you want... however, it is not imediate ! You have to wait and to be agree with the chineese proverb which said "Patience is power ; with time and patience the mulberry leaf becomes a silk gown."

This sentence, I had it several times this afternoon. If I wasn't perseverant, you wouldn't see my work. Perseverance is an essential quality for the internet user. If you buy a computer, with an internet connexion, and if you are a "newbie", you have to be patient and perseverant !

Web neutrality

So many women on the world, so many definition of "web neutrality". The one which interest me is that the web neutrality is in fact the freedom of the internet user when he creates his website, his blog.

To explain the "web neutrality", we can compare it with the "press neutrality". When you want to say something, to give your opinion on a newspaper, you have to pay your broadcast licence which is very expensive. That is the reason why you have to be controlled by a group to pay it. Morover, you have to find company's advertisement. So, is there a freedom of the press about the group and about this company ?

However, when you want to say the same thing on the web, you don't have to find a press group, you don't have to find company to buy advertisements... you just need a computer and internet... or just 2€ to buy an hour in a cyber-cafe. You don't have to be a professional of the web to make a site, you can create your blog in a few minutes... That is the web neutrality and maybee the new freedom of speech...

I have no friends... Internet must help me !

On internet, you can find “social networks” which are website where you can create your personal space and make friends.

For example, with MySpace, you can create your blog, upload your music ans videos and meet friends and friends of friends. At the beginning, it was only a social network but artists appropriate it in order to diffuse their music, their movies, their draws… In United States, the succes of MySpace is unbelievable. Some artists used it as a way of warning the fans of a sudden concert. The buzz around the site involved a pick of audience. We can see the progression of the site during 2005.

DRM, forbid or prevent ?

A DRM is a technology which can prevent an excessive use of a multimediafile or software. The DRM control can be used on several case. For instance, the “DVD Zone” is a DRM and it forbid the play of a DVD when you are not inthe great geographic zone. Then, some multimedia players use it in order toforbid the reading on another player. With the DRM technology, you can also prevent the copy or the extraction of your CD or your DVD.

We can really aswer if this technology is good for the web because we are loosing the idea of freedom of multimedia file using and the notion of sharing. Then, a lot of internet users are against this technology and create web site like StopDRM, to forbid the DRM.

Of course ! First, this weeks, everybody talk about the Web 2.0 ! This term represents all the new manners to use internet. For example, you have the wikis, which are web site where everybody can modify the text or the pictures. New social networks like MySpace, where you can meet friends and share yout photos, videos and musics, are also Web 2.0.

Podcast here, podcast there… but, what it is ?

A podcast... oh, let me thinking about it... ok, a podcast is an audio file which you can download on the web to listen itlatter on a mp3 player or a iPod. According to Nielsen Analytics in "The Economics of Podcasting", 75% of the podcast's users are men. The biggest problem with the podcast, it's that the user can accelerate the listening during the advertisement. It is a great danger because the announcers are maybe going to abandon this media. However, the podcast is not a mass media because only 6% of the internet users already have downloading a podcast file.

Be careful ! You should not confuse podcast and streaming because the streaming is an on-line file that you couldn’t download.

As far as I remember, the concept was created by Tristan Louis in October 2000, and the name "podcast" is a mix of “iPod” and “Broadcasting”. However, the name is not an Apple’s trademark.

Today, it is an inescapable phenomenon because almost every radio and TV group make podcast program. Some sites list the podcast program like Podcast.net which propose about 40.000 podcast to download.
